Medicaid

Medicaid programs are administered jointly by federal and state governments to provide medical assistance to those who qualify for federal financial assistance and to others whose income and resources cannot meet medical needs. Medicaid got its start with the 1965 passage of Title XIX of the Social Security Act, which provides federal grants to states for their medical assistance programs.
